Seven places to check
- Shoulders — the jacket's shoulder should end where your shoulder ends, without pressing on the top of your arm.
- Jacket front — buttoned up, there should be no X-shaped pull around the button, and no large gap either.
- Sleeve length — with your arms relaxed, a little shirt cuff usually shows below the jacket sleeve. Check the side you wear a watch.
- Jacket length — this depends on your build and taste; decide it with your designer in front of the mirror.
- The back — look for horizontal folds below the collar or at the waist. A photo from behind helps.
- Trouser waist and seat — sit down and stand up. Nothing should pinch or pull.
- Trouser length — check it wearing the shoes you will wear with the suit.
Move in it
- Reach forward as if driving or shaking hands
- Sit in a chair
- Lift a knee as if climbing stairs
Tight fit or relaxed fit
Some clients prefer a tight fit, while others want a formal fit for every-day use. We check your requirements with you before finalising anything.
If it still doesn't fit
At Neal's Tailor, if the suit does not fit we continue to adjust it for you free of charge — and you only pay the balance when it fits 100%. To keep it in shape afterwards, see suit care.
